GMB has called 25 more tram strike days, including Christmas Eve and the 21 November lights switch-on. Every date, and what it means for Line 2 stops.

Nottingham’s tram workers will strike on 25 more days between 22 October and 31 December. The GMB union announced the dates on Friday 9 October. They include Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve, and almost every weekend of the Christmas shopping season. (GMB, 9 October 2026)

For West Bridgford that means Line 2. The four stops on this side of the Trent are Wilford Lane, Wilford Village, Compton Acres and Ruddington Lane, with the Clifton South park and ride at the end of the same line.

The 25 dates

Month Strike days
October Thursday 22, Friday 23, Friday 30, Saturday 31
November Monday 2, Friday 13, Saturday 14, Friday 20, Saturday 21, Friday 27, Saturday 28, Sunday 29
December Friday 4, Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Friday 11, Saturday 12, Sunday 13, Friday 18, Saturday 19, Sunday 20, Thursday 24, Saturday 26, Sunday 27, Thursday 31

The pattern is clear once you lay it out by day. Every Saturday from 31 October to 26 December is a strike day, except 7 November. Every Friday from 13 November to 18 December is one too. Only one Monday is affected, 2 November.

Will any trams run?

Nottingham Express Transit had not published a service plan for the new dates when we checked on Saturday 10 October. Its news page and its strike help page still covered only the Goose Fair walkouts.

Last time, NET ran no trams at all on the four strike days in September and October. It said then that some staff would still work, but that stopping every service was “the safest thing to do”. It also said buses would not accept tram tickets and that season passes would not be extended. Our report on those strikes has the refund rules NET set out. (NET customer support)

Until NET says otherwise, plan on the basis that the same could happen again. We will add its plan here when it publishes one.

The dates that clash with West Bridgford events

Three of the strike days land on things people in the town are already planning around:

The weekend of the A52 westbound closure at Wheatcroft, 23 to 26 October, starts on a strike day too. Our roadworks page has the detail.

What the two sides say

GMB says the dispute covers drivers, ticketing staff, control staff, engineers, cleaners and office workers. Colin Whyatt, GMB organiser, said members “have been trying to resolve this dispute for almost a year”.

“These strike dates will last through Nottinghamshire’s busiest Christmas shopping weeks,” he said. “If tram bosses are serious about fixing the mess they’ve created, they’ll get around the table with a serious offer on pay.”

In September GMB said 88% of workers had backed strike action, and that around 200 were expected to take part. (GMB, 16 September 2026)

NET’s last published position dates from 18 September. It said it had made a final improved offer on 19 June of 3.3%, with 7% for the lowest paid roles, and that GMB was asking for 4.1%. Sarah Turner, NET’s managing director, called the union’s claim “financially untenable and way above current inflation levels”. (NET, 18 September 2026) NET has not yet responded publicly to the new dates.

What it means for you

  • Put the dates in your diary now. There are 25 of them, and the first is Thursday 22 October, twelve days away.
  • Do not count on a reduced service. In the last round NET ran nothing at all on strike days.
  • Heading into town for Christmas shopping on a Saturday? Every Saturday but one from 31 October is affected. Allow for the bus, a drive and city centre parking, or the walk over Trent Bridge or Wilford Suspension Bridge.
  • If you hold a weekly or monthly tram ticket, check NET’s refund terms before the first strike day. Last time a refund was available, but only on request.
  • Driving instead? The charges change either side of the river. See parking in West Bridgford.

Live running information is on NET’s service status page.
