Lady Bay Gas Works Close Ropsley Crescent Until 23 December

Gas mains replacement work will close two Lady Bay streets and strip the kerbside parking from five more, from Tuesday 31 August until Friday 23 December 2026.

Nottinghamshire County Council made the order on 26 August. It allows Cadent Gas to work across a block of streets between Radcliffe Road and Adbolton Lane for almost four months.

Two roads close to traffic:

• Ropsley Crescent, along its whole length. The signed diversion is Radcliffe Road.
• Seymour Road, from its junction with Trent Boulevard for 50 metres south. The signed diversion is Rutland Road, Julian Road and Trent Boulevard.

Five more get no waiting, loading or unloading at any time, on both sides:

• Rutland Road, from Oakfields Road to Julian Road
• Gertrude Road, from Rutland Road to Trent Boulevard
• Trent Boulevard, from Gertrude Road to Adbolton Lane
• Adbolton Lane, for 50 metres east of Trent Boulevard
• Pierrepont Road, from Trent Boulevard to Rutland Road

The order also suspends the existing permanent restrictions on those lengths “as required”, and it is made under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. (Public Notice Portal)

The work has already started nearby

This is not the first Cadent order in Lady Bay this month. The county also closed two footpaths for the same reason, mains replacement: Radcliffe Road to Cyril Road and Rutland Road to Radcliffe Road, from 7am on Monday 24 August until 6pm on Friday 4 September, with walkers sent round via Florence Road, Abbey Road and Radcliffe Road. The county first advertised the street order on 17 August as an intention, then confirmed on 26 August that it had been made. Cadent has published nothing of its own about the Lady Bay work, so the statutory notice is the only record of what is coming.

What it means for you

• The parking is the part that will bite. None of these streets is in the borough’s pay and display scheme, so residents and visitors park on them for free, and the terraces along Rutland Road and Gertrude Road have little off-street space. From Tuesday, “no waiting at any time” on both sides means no parking at all on the named lengths while the signs are up.
• The dates are a window, not a promise. The order says the restrictions “shall only be in effect when the signs are in place”. Cadent will move through the streets in stages rather than dig all seven at once, so watch the cones on your own road rather than assuming the whole area is shut for four months.
• It can also run longer. Like every temporary order of this kind, it carries the standard clause allowing it to stay in force until the works are finished, “within a maximum period of 18 months”.
• Match days will be tighter. Lady Bay Bridge and Scarrington Road are already closed when signs are in place around City Ground events, from 22 August 2026 to 23 May 2027. That closure and these works now overlap on the same side of the river. Our report on the matchday closures has the diversion.
• One oddity in the record. The county’s own notice misspells two of the streets, printing “Gertude Road” and “Abbolton Lane” for Gertrude Road and Adbolton Lane. The lengths described make clear which roads are meant.
