Fortava Healthcare, which runs Wilford View in Silverdale, is a Caring UK Awards 2026 finalist for Care Group of the Year. Winners are named on 3 December.

Fortava Healthcare, the company behind the Wilford View dementia care home in Silverdale, has been named a finalist for Care Group of the Year at the Caring UK Awards 2026.

The group runs five specialist dementia homes: Wilford View, Stapleford View and Long Eaton View, which it counts as its Nottinghamshire homes, and Thorpe Wood and The Maltings in Peterborough. The awards, now in their ninth year, cover the whole UK care sector, and the company says entries this year reached a record number.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Athena in Leicester on Thursday 3 December. Until then Fortava goes through the next stage of the judging.

Seeing the person, not the dementia

Fortava describes its approach as being about the person rather than the condition: making sure the people who live in its homes keep their identity, purpose, choice and relationships. In practice, it says, that means pairing dementia care with meaningful occupation, activities and chances for residents to stay involved in everyday life.

Johann van Zyl, co-founder and chief executive, said:

“At Fortava, we believe that dementia does not erase a person’s identity, abilities or need for purpose and meaningful relationships. Our approach is built around understanding the individual, recognising what matters to them and creating opportunities for them to continue living fulfilling lives.

“To have this philosophy recognised at a national level is particularly meaningful to us, because it reflects what we believe specialist dementia care should be.”

“This recognition belongs to our teams”

Jamie Stuart, co-founder and chief financial officer, put the shortlisting down to the staff in the homes:

“Being named a finalist for Care Group of the Year is something we’re extremely proud of. Fortava has been built around a simple ambition: to provide great care while creating homes where people genuinely matter.

“This recognition belongs to our teams across the group. Their commitment to the people we support is what makes Fortava special, and I’m incredibly proud of what we are achieving together.”

Wilford View in the news this month

Wilford View, on Brookthorpe Way, hosted Nottingham South MP Lilian Greenwood on 9 October, when the group told her that care fees are falling behind the true cost of providing care: read our report on the MP’s visit.
