West Bridgford Remembrance Sunday: 8 Nov, 9am at St Giles

Remembrance Sunday 2026 is Sunday 8 November. Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November. Both matter in Rushcliffe, because the borough splits its commemoration across the two: the parish services and parades happen on the Sunday, and the council’s own civic act of remembrance happens on the 11th in West Bridgford.

Before anything else, a warning about the source most people will check first.

Rushcliffe’s own page is printing 2025 dates

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Remembrance Day page and its short /remembrance/ page both say the same two things, with no year attached:

“Commemorative events will take place in parishes across Rushcliffe on Sunday 9 November.”

“Rushcliffe Borough Council will host an Armistice Service on the Croquet Lawn, Central Avenue, West Bridgford on Tuesday 11 November from 10.45am.”

Neither is 2026. 9 November 2026 is a Monday and 11 November 2026 is a Wednesday. Those two dates were a Sunday and a Tuesday in 2025, which is the year the page was written for and never updated. The council’s news area had published nothing about Remembrance for 2026 when we checked on 6 September.

So treat the council page as a description of the format, which has been stable for years, and not as a 2026 timetable. The format is the useful part: parish events on Remembrance Sunday, a civic act of remembrance on Central Avenue on the 11th itself.

West Bridgford: St Giles, 9am, then Musters Road at 10.50am

The main service in West Bridgford is at St Giles’ Church, Church Drive, NG2 6AY. St Giles’ own Remembrance Sunday page, written for 9 November 2025, sets out a pattern the parish has kept for years:

• 9.00am, St Giles Church. The Remembrance service, with hymns, readings, a two minute silence and The Last Post.
• Refreshments afterwards in church.
• 10.50am, Musters Road War Memorial. A short act of remembrance and wreath laying, with prayers led by the vicar and a two minute silence at 11am.

The 9am start catches people out. It is earlier than a normal Sunday morning service, and it is deliberately early so that the congregation can walk up to the war memorial for the 11am silence.

The 2026 timings had not been republished when we checked on 6 September. The page carrying them is still headed 9th November 2025. If the pattern holds, and it has held for several years, the same 9.00am and 10.50am applies on Sunday 8 November 2026. We will update this page when St Giles posts the 2026 order of service.

Armistice Day: Central Avenue, Wednesday 11 November

This is the borough’s civic event and the one Rushcliffe publicises hardest. The council’s 2025 announcement, last updated 7 November 2025, describes it plainly:

“All are welcome to attend the Remembrance event on Central Avenue in West Bridgford that starts shortly before 11am with a bugler playing The Last Post on the stroke of the hour and the two minute reflection.”

The Mayor of Rushcliffe leads it with local dignitaries. The council’s standing page puts the gathering point at the Croquet Lawn, Central Avenue and gives a 10.45am start. The advice in the release is to arrive in good time ahead of 11am.

Central Avenue is the shopping street, so the shops are open and trading around it. This is a short standing event on the pavement and green, not a parade.

Ruddington: a parade, and roads that close

Ruddington does the fullest village version, and it is the one with a traffic consequence. Ruddington Parish Council’s war memorial page describes it:

“the uniformed groups in the village parade from The Green to the War Memorial, where wreaths of poppies are laid. A short service then takes place at the War Memorial, followed by Morning Service at St Peter’s Church. Roads in the village are closed for the parade, so residents are encouraged to walk to the service.”

The parish council says the details and timings are usually announced in the November issue of The Rudd, the village magazine. That is the source to watch, and it means firm Ruddington times will not exist until roughly the last week of October.

If you are driving through Ruddington on the morning of Sunday 8 November, assume the village centre is shut for a period around 11am and plan around it. Our West Bridgford roadworks and travel page carries anything published in advance.

Bingham: Sunday 8 November, confirmed

Bingham is the one place in the borough that has put the correct 2026 date in print. Bingham Town Council’s own events listing carries Remembrance Sunday on Sunday 8 November 2026. No time, route or venue is attached to it yet.

That listing is worth noting for a second reason: the same page confirms Bingham’s Christmas Fayre and Christmas lights switch-on for Friday 27 November 2026, which we cover on our Rushcliffe Christmas markets page.

Over the bridge: the Victoria Embankment service

Plenty of West Bridgford residents go to the city’s service rather than a parish one. It is a ten minute walk from Trent Bridge, at the Nottingham War Memorial on Victoria Embankment, on the far bank of the Trent.

Nottingham City Council’s published arrangements, which set out the format in detail, describe the standing shape of the day:

• The service at the Victoria Embankment memorial begins at 10.45am, with the two minute silence and wreath laying.
• Wreaths are laid by the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, the Lord Mayor of Nottingham and the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, alongside military and faith representatives.
• A large screen is put up on the Embankment so the crowd can see the ceremony.
• The parade forms up at the Wilford Grove and Embankment road closure, marches down to the memorial, and afterwards marches towards the Embankment and Bunbury Street closure, saluting the Lord Lieutenant before falling out.
• On Remembrance Sunday there is no activity in Old Market Square.
• On Armistice Day itself there is a separate short service on the steps of the Council House, starting at 10.50am and taking the silence at 11am.

That article is the city’s 2022 announcement, when Remembrance Sunday fell on 13 November. The times and the road closure points have been repeated since, but the city had not published its 2026 confirmation when we checked on 6 September. Do not turn up expecting the Embankment to be closed until the city says so for this year.

Parking

Central Avenue on Armistice Day is a weekday late-morning event, which is the worst time for parking in West Bridgford. The council car parks around Central Avenue and Bridgford Road fill from mid-morning and are enforced. For the Sunday services, on-street parking around Musters Road and Church Drive is residential and tight, and the Embankment service pulls city-side parking as well. Both St Giles and Ruddington Parish Council make the same point: walk if you can.
